In this page I am going to upload step by step processes I took to get to my final piece of work. This will be for my Magazine advert, Digi Pack ,Rough cut and final music video. We took screen shots of us gradually making our productions. Below are the images in order.

MAGAZINE ADVERT

Rebecca's role was to design the Magazine advert .

This is a photograph that Rebecca has taken, she felt that it would fit in well with the styling of the music video and fit in with an image used on the CD cover; therefore this could be a brand identity for the overall campaign. She edited this image on photo shop by changing the levels of brightness in certain areas of the image; using the magnetic lasso tool. This allowed her to select the areas that she wanted to change. The reason why she wanted to change the darkness is because we wanted the text to be in white; therefore the image couldn’t be too bright otherwise the text wouldn’t stand out; something which it should do.
The next step she took was to find a font that would work well with the overall styling of the advert and the brand identity of their name. We kept this througout all three of our products. She chose to put the band’s name at the top of the advert, in a large size because we wanted it to be noticeable; something that you would notice straight away. She double spaced the letters so that it would give the impression of a larger font and it would spread across the entire top of the advert therefore making it more structured. She chose this font for the advert because we felt that it was very similar to the font I had designed for the album cover and so to keep the styling the same throughout, it would be more effective to use a
similar font as a brand identity. This font works well because it isn’t too overpowering and is a simplistic font which fits in with the styling.

She positioned the other words onto the advert, in the same way as planned, in the same order then gradually decreased the size of the writing which would mean that you would have to read into the advert to find out more about the album. She felt that ‘debut album’ was something that should be important with this being the band’s first album, so positioned this first; followed by the title of the album and the date it would be released.

From our research, it was evident that a lot of the adverts used a quote on their advert, from a radio station or magazine, something that would influence the viewer to buy the album. It started by deciding to position stars on the advert, which is the rating for the album. This is something that the viewer would instantly notice and then they would read further down and read the actual quote. She created the star using Microsoft word, changing the size and the colour and then copied this several times and positioned them equal distances apart on the advert, so that it looked almost symmetrical.

The next step was to think of a quote that could put on the advert. We didn’t want it to be too long, just to get to the point straight away but something that could influence you to buy the album. Rebecca chose ‘One word; outstanding’. Underneath this quote, again in a smaller sized font, she wrote who the quote was by, NME. She chose to use NME because this magazine shows bands of a similar genre and therefore would be somewhere that this advert would be likely to appear in. NME have the use of multiplatform, with a magazine, music channel and website, therefore if you are into this kind of music you would know they are very influential and therefore more likely to listen to it.

A vital piece of information, which is a generic convention on most album adverts, is the band’s website, my space or twitter page because nowadays social networking plays a big part. We have chosen to use the band’s website  in the magazine advert and digi pack and their my space account. Rebecca positioned them in the bottom right hand corner because they aren’t the most important parts of the advert but need to appear on the advert so that people can find out more about the band or album if they wanted to.

The final aspect added to complete the advert was somewhere the album would be available to buy and download. This would have to be something that our target audience would know and be instantly recognisable. From my audience research, on one of the questions, it was evident that most people used itunes to download their music; therefore it was obvious that that should be the icon displayed on the advert. It was  positioned this is the bottom left hand corner which meant that it evened out the whole advert.

Digi Pack

My role was to design the digi pack.
It was my role to design the digi pack for our media. I decided to keep the colour pallet simple in black and white as this is the effect and brand identity we are using throughout our coursework. Our music video is based on a Forrest therefore we have a tree in black which Rebecca drew and I edited using the brightness and contrasting tool. This allowed the tree to look solidly black. I also added a bar code to the digi pack as this is a typical convention. The other image is a logo I decided to use for our record label. A record label is also a convention for a digi pack.

digi pack. I re sized the image of the tree so it wasn't over powering the back cover. I then put it in the bottom left so it looked like it was standing on the floor of a Forrest. I Then kept the bar code and Record label and put them together at the bottom left of the back cover. The next typical convention I added was tracks. The font I used for the track was the same as we used for the Magazine advert. This links our magazine advert and digi pack together.I put the track names in order so they looked like they were getting bigger and they float into the tree. The band allowed us to use some of their song tracks, however because they are a new band they didn't have many so I took inspiration from the other tracks to make up my own.

I then added a spine onto the digi pack, this is a convention of a digi pack as well. I made this black so it stood out with the white and sticks with the colour pallet. On the spine I put the name of the band and their debut single on the album. This is the name of the song that is on the magazine advert as well. This is part of our brand identity. The little logo that is with the record company is also on the spine, however it is very small. At this stage I also added a name to our records which is 'PX records' I took this inspiration from other digi packs I analysed and found that many of them had short record labels.

This is the image we have chosen for our front cover. Our original image was similar but after audience research we found they preferred this one. Rebecca took inspiration to draw this picture from images of females she had looked at. Once she drew it I edited it on photo shop. I darkened the black parts of image and lightened the white areas. This made the girl stand out. We wanted the image to stand out on our digi pack. 'The Notice' written at the bottom left is drawn on in the style of the font I used for the back of the digi pack. I edited the lighting of this as well and made sure all the edges were straight with a line tool on photo shop. The writing 'Sweet Nothing' on her hand is again our debut single. This looks as if it is a tattoo and that relates to our genre of this music.

This is our front and back cover together. I made the image of the girl fit the whole front cover. I did this by resizing the image, not stretching the image and distorting it. On the back cover I then added the bands my space URL. They are a new, not well known band, therefore they  will want as much publicity as possible. I felt that putting their my space link on the digi pack allowed this. As the audience could see this and go on and want to listen to more of their music. I placed it at the bottom of the tree so it almost looked like leaves that had fallen off, so it linked to the Forrest theme.

For this step I decided to put a plain white box in the this panel. This would be an inside panel to our design. The white links to the plain theme we have gone for. I had the idea of a black silhouette image in the right hand corner of the white image. As I developed this digi pack rebecca drew an image for this.
On this panel I had to rotate the image 180 degrees so I could look at my design properly. I wanted to include the other drawn image we were originally going to use for the front cover on the digi pack somewhere as I thought it looked good and went well with our ideas. Therefore I decided to tile the image across one of the panels. I took inspiration from The Beatles 'a hard days night' I saw this tiled effect and thought it looked really good.
This process included the silhouette. It has a dark figurine the right hand corner walking on grass. Then You can see a tree in the distance which is the same tree from the back cover. This links the panels together. I made these images darker using the magnetic lasso then changed the brightness. This allowed me to keep in with the simple theme.
On this step, I included an image of the band I took. It has the three guitarists in. I desaturated the picture so it had a black and white effect and then cut around each model to make the background white. This image links with the music as we wanted to have the band feature on the digi pack as it is their music.
This was the final stage to the digi pack. I put one last image of all of the band on. I changed the image to black and white so it fitted in well. This included the whole band so they were featured throughout as it is their music we used. We took these photos of the band at their usual band practise.
Rough cut

Below is our rough cut for our music video. A rough cut is a clip where all the footage we have taken is simply thrown together in some kind of chronological order and a few effects are added so people can get the jist of what we are after. In our rough cut we have all the Forrest footage in. However our band footage isn't in as this was our first draft. Therefore this video here will have band footage added to it where the image is that says 'band'. As you can see we have gone for an old film effect and distorted our footage. We uploaded this rough cut onto facebook to allow us to get feedback from our target audience. The kind of feedback we were after was, constructive criticism and the positives and negatives to our music video.

Final Music Vide

My final music was  created through feedback given off my rough draft. I allowed people to watch my rough cut and then asked them to comment on my video. I asked for areas that were good and areas that they thought could be improved and how they could be improved. This feedback allowed me to make the video the best I could. I added in transitions between clips this made the narrative flow more easier. I also added different lighting to areas to enhance the band and their performance.
